Many years ago we conducted a heir search for an estate with no known heirs in which the decedent had an aunt who moved from the family home in Connecticut to New Orleans. We will call her Marie. We learned this information from the obituary of one of the decedent's grandfathers. The obituary just stated that the grandfather was "survived by a daughter, Marie, of New Orleans". The problem we faced was that the decedent's aunt had most likely gotten married at some point. We checked for marriage records without success.

We then came up with the idea of checking the census records in New Orleans for a woman named Marie who was born in Connecticut. It was a very time consuming process, but it ended on a happy note. We found the correct Marie and then went on to successfully locate all of the heirs.
